New Wolverhampton Wanderers signing Stephen Hunt desperate to return from injury for derby clashes

July 13th, 2010

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Stephen Hunt, who suffered a foot injury in pre-season which has ruled him out of the early stages of the upcoming Premier League season is already eyeing a return date.

The Republic of Ireland international, who joined Wolves from Hull City back in June, will travel with Mick McCarthy’s squad to Dublin on Wednesday as they prepare for a week-long training camp and a friendly clash with Dublin side Bohemians on Saturday.

“The physio has got to know me pretty quickly – he put the reins on me straight away”, Hunt told the club’s official website.

“He’s told me ‘take your time and once you’re back, you’ll be fit for the rest of the season – you don’t want to be picking up niggling injuries by coming back too soon’.

“I’ve had a look at the fixture list and I’ve got one or two games in mind for myself, but the physio has targeted other games.

“There are some big local derbies coming up, so we’ll see how we go.

“But I don’t know how my recovery will go – some weeks could go well and others I could just hit a standstill.

“Providing I don’t go backwards, I won’t mind.”

Hunt scored six goals in 27 Premier League appearances for Hull City last season in what was his debut season for the club.
